About Me

My research and costume design focus concerns the role of the designer as a ‘visual dramaturg’ in bringing the page to the stage. My emphasis is on designing new works or reenvisioning extant texts using the concept of ‘world-building’ and a design process that mirrors common dramaturgy protocols: analysis, research, problem-solving, practical application, and reflection. By first dealing with the world (both physical and metaphysical) in which the script will live, the design team can create a contextual framework that breathes life, meaning, and understanding to the text.

I am currently the Assistant Professor of Design at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I was previously an Associate Professor of Design at UNC-Charlotte. I continue to work in Chicago and other regional theatre as a costume designer and playwright. I am a proud member of United Scenic Artists Union 829. I champion equity, access, and inclusion in my design practice.

I use she/her/hers pronouns.
